On June 21, 2021, Eternal University, Baru Sahib marked International Yoga Day under the global theme “Be with Yoga, Be at Home”. The event was spearheaded by the National Service Scheme (NSS) and National Cadet Corps (NCC) units to promote awareness about the numerous health benefits of yoga, especially during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Yoga: A Global Remedy During the Pandemic
With people across the world facing social isolation, anxiety, and depression during lockdowns, yoga has emerged as a powerful tool for physical fitness and emotional resilience. Eternal University highlighted yoga’s critical role in the psychosocial care and recovery of COVID-19 patients, supporting mental clarity and reducing stress levels.
Online Engagement and Offline Enthusiasm
The university ensured maximum participation from students both on-campus and at home. Over 200 students enthusiastically joined the celebrations online through

- Poster-making activity reflecting the theme and yoga awareness
Brisk Walk and Orientation for Wellness
The day commenced with an awareness rally cum brisk walk, themed “Friendly Walk for Healthy Life.” Around 200 volunteers, maintaining proper social distancing norms, joined the 2 km walk.
The rally was flagged off by Dr. A.S. Ahluwalia, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Eternal University, reinforcing the importance of healthy habits and daily physical activity.
Live Yoga Demonstration and Mental Fitness
After the rally, students and staff gathered on the university’s sports ground for a yoga session, led by Ms. Manpreet Kaur, Assistant Professor and Athletic Coach. She demonstrated basic yoga exercises and breathing techniques aimed at improving flexibility, strength, and calmness.
Participants were also given a general orientation on various yoga forms, helping them understand how simple daily practices can bring lifelong wellness.
Pledge for a Healthier Tomorrow
The event concluded with a pledge by all participants to adopt yoga as a daily lifestyle practice to enhance their physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
