Shaping the Future of Indian Agriculture at Eternal University

On 25th March 2023, a powerful expert lecture on “Indian Agriculture: Vision 2047” was hosted at the Eternal University auditorium, jointly organized by the Akal College of Economics, Commerce and Management and Dr. Khem Singh Gill Akal College of Agriculture. The session featured Prof. A.K. Sarial, eminent agricultural scientist and Former Vice-Chancellor of CSK HPKV, Palampur.

Opening Remarks and Warm Welcome

The event began with Prof. S.K. Chauhan, Dean of ACECM, introducing the esteemed guest and briefing the audience on the relevance of the topic. Prof. A.S. Ahluwalia, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Eternal University, then extended a heartfelt welcome to the speaker, faculty, students, and dignitaries while highlighting the university’s achievements and its commitment to progressive education.

Keynote Highlights – Agriculture’s Role in India’s Development

Prof. A.K. Sarial delivered a thought-provoking address, emphasizing the critical role of agriculture in India’s economy. He stated that the sector provides livelihood to 42.6% of the population and contributes 16.5% to the GDP. He praised the sector’s resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic, which saw a remarkable 22.62% growth.

Prof. Sarial stressed that achieving the Government of India’s Vision 2047 requires more than just higher yields. It demands:

  • Adoption of modern agricultural practices
  • Smart input management and optimal usage
  • Farmer awareness and education
  • Advanced technologies to address food security

He also underlined the importance of blended learning in agricultural education and the pivotal role of scientists and policymakers in transforming India into a developed nation by 2047.

A Strong Closing to an Inspiring Session

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. S.K. Sharma, Dean of Dr. Khem Singh Gill Akal College of Agriculture. He expressed gratitude to the guest speaker and all participants.

The lecture was attended by over 200 participants, including students, faculty, and prominent figures such as Dr. H.S. Dhaliwal (Former Vice-Chancellor), Mrs. Dhaliwal, Dr. B.S. Boparai (Founder Dean, College of Agriculture), and Dr. B.S. Sohal (Dean, Postgraduate Studies).
