Exploring Heritage and History with Eternal University Students
From 23rd to 26th February 2023, Akal College of Economics, Commerce and Management, Eternal University, Baru Sahib, organized an enriching educational tour to Punjab for undergraduate and postgraduate students. Led by Dr. Manjinder Kaur (Coordinator), Mr. Amber Srivastava (Co-coordinator), and Ms. Kuldeep Kaur (Member), the tour offered students a unique blend of spiritual learning, historical insights, and cultural exposure.
Spiritual Beginnings at Kiratpur Sahib – Day 1
The journey began with a visit to Gurudwara Patalpuri Sahib, Kiratpur, a sacred place where Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji and Guru Har Rai Ji were cremated. Students paid obeisance and absorbed the spiritual ambiance that set the tone for the rest of the tour.
Sikh Legacy at Anandpur Sahib & Amritsar – Day 2
The next day, students visited Virasat-e-Khalsa in Anandpur Sahib, where they explored 500 years of Sikh history and learned about the birth of Khalsa in 1699 by Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
Later, they reached Amritsar to offer prayers at the Golden Temple (Darbar Sahib) and learned about its founding by Guru Ram Das Ji and the spiritual significance of the Sarovar. They also discovered the historical relevance of the Akal Takht, founded by Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji in 1609.
Remembering the Martyrs & Patriotic Pride – Day 3
On 24th February, the group visited Jallianwala Bagh, paying tribute to the martyrs of the 1919 massacre. In the afternoon, they headed to the Wagah Border to witness the vibrant and patriotic Beating Retreat Ceremony, which left the students deeply inspired and entertained.
Academic Exchange at Akal University – Day 4
Students arrived at Akal University, Talwandi Sabo, where Madam Raman warmly welcomed them and gave a guided tour of the infrastructure, including classrooms, hostels, seminar halls, and labs. They interacted with faculty members and shared lunch at the university mess.
Afterwards, they visited Shri Damdama Sahib, one of the five takhts of Sikhism, where Guru Gobind Singh Ji completed the final compilation of Sri Guru Granth Sahib in 1705.
Patiala Visit and Cultural Exposure – Day 5
On the final day, students visited Mastuana Sahib, a Gurudwara established by Baba Attar Singh Ji, emphasizing the role of education in nation-building. They then visited Shri Dukh Nivaran Sahib, believed to possess healing waters.
The trip concluded with a cultural visit to Craft Mela at Moti Mahal, showcasing handicrafts from across India and beyond. A short shopping break in Patiala’s local market rounded off the experience before students began their return journey to Baru Sahib.
