In a meaningful step toward creating a psychologically safe campus, the Department of Mental Health Nursing at Akal College of Nursing successfully organized an impactful awareness program titled “Understanding Self Harm: Awareness, Support, and Prevention.”
The initiative aimed to educate students about emotional well-being, early warning signs of distress, and the importance of timely support and professional help. The session was interactive, student-centered, and focused on fostering empathy, openness, and resilience.
Creating a Safe Space for Honest Conversations
Mental health challenges often remain unspoken due to stigma and misconceptions. This awareness program encouraged students to speak openly, ask questions, and share experiences in a safe and non-judgmental environment.
Through guided discussions and practical activities, participants gained deeper insight into emotional health and supportive peer behavior.

- Situation-based scenarios promoting peer support and healthy help-seeking behavior
- Myth vs Fact discussions to break common misconceptions about mental health
- Group discussions and experience sharing in a supportive setting
- Mind relaxation and stress-management exercises, including breathing and mindfulness techniques
- Question and answer session to clarify doubts and concerns
These activities ensured active participation while strengthening emotional literacy and coping skills.
Positive Outcomes of the Program
