Turning Waste into Wisdom – A Hands-On Sustainability Experience at Eternal University

How can waste be more than just garbage?
Students of the Skill Enhancement Course (Solid Waste Management) at Eternal University discovered the answer firsthand during their insightful visit to the Biogas Plant and Vermi-Unit.

The visit aimed to help learners connect theoretical concepts of waste management with real-world applications — showcasing how innovation and environmental care go hand in hand.

From Waste to Renewable Energy and Organic Gold

During the visit, students observed the process of converting organic waste into biogas, a renewable source of energy that reduces dependency on fossil fuels.
They also explored vermicomposting, where organic matter is transformed into nutrient-rich compost — often called “black gold” for its value in improving soil fertility.

These eco-friendly technologies not only minimize waste but also promote sustainable agriculture and green energy solutions — vital steps toward a cleaner and greener future.

Guided Learning with Real-World Impact

Under the expert guidance of Dr. Rakesh Joshi, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, Akal College of Basic Sciences, students learned how simple environmental practices can make a powerful difference.

Through this visit, students gained practical insights into solid waste management, discovering how scientific knowledge can lead to sustainable innovation.
