Empowering Future Investors through Practical Knowledge
In an effort to strengthen financial literacy among students, Akal College of Economics, Commerce, and Management, Eternal University, organized a two-day educational webinar on “Fundamentals of Investing, Initial Public Offers (IPOs), Buying & Selling of Securities, and Corporate Actions” on 30th September and 1st October 2021.
Day 1: Demystifying IPOs and Shareholder Rights
The event began with a warm welcome by Dr. S.K. Chauhan, Dean of the College, who introduced the participants to the economic and demographic profile of Himachal Pradesh and gave an overview of Eternal University.
The session was led by Er. Amit Gupta, a SEBI-empanelled securities market trainer. He simplified complex stock market concepts using real-life examples and covered:
Basics of the Primary Market
- Detailed insights on Initial Public Offers (IPOs)
- Explanation of Book Building Mechanism
- Role of Red Herring Prospectus & Abridged Prospectus
- Rights and responsibilities of shareholders
Participants enthusiastically interacted during the Q&A session, clarifying their doubts and appreciating the value-packed session.
Day 2: Understanding Mutual Funds, Dividends & Bonus Shares
The second day featured engaging video content aimed at increasing awareness about mutual funds from an investor’s perspective.
Er. Amit Gupta continued with valuable insights, explaining:
- The power of bonus shares with real examples like Infosys
- The concept of dividends and their long-term benefits
- Difference between stock splits and bonus issues
Participants submitted queries in the chat, all of which were addressed in the concluding remarks, making it a highly interactive and informative session.
Closing Ceremony and Certificate Distribution
The event concluded with heartfelt thanks by Mr. Srivastava and Ms. Kuldeep Kaur, acknowledging the expert speaker, enthusiastic participants, the Dean, and the university administration.
